Personal Tea Companion
Hello readers! As if you needed another reason to drink tea, right? This adorable thing is called a tea pet! Tea pets are cute accessories to any tea drinking experience and, according to Wikipedia, are used for luck. From my understanding, you pour your excess tea over them either at the end of your cup or when you’re finished drinking from that pot and thanks to the nature of Yixing clay that they are usually made out of, it absorbs a little of the tea and locks in the scent. As time goes on you’ll be able to tell what unique character your tea pet’s aroma takes on as you drink different teas or the same one! Also, I have seen the term “raising” your tea pet. Precious!
They come in many different forms, ranging from Buddha to animals, and apparently some have some sort of “spitting” ability like the frog pictured above or “peeing” in some other types! I have personally been on the hunt for tea pets in stores but haven't found any. Thankfully, my sissy has bought me this one from Amazon and I am in LOVE. I have to name my little tea turtles.
